RESOURCES

Welcome to my educational resources collection! This page is a living document that I continuously update with valuable resources for theatre educators, directors, and choreographers. Whether these materials are self-created or discovered through collaboration with other educators, I believe in sharing knowledge to strengthen our educational community. As teaching artists, our growth should extend beyond our artistic abilities - we must constantly evolve as educators to better serve our students and programs.

WARMUP

One of my favorite parts of directing and choreographing is leading cast warm-ups. Beyond the physical necessity of preparing our bodies and voices, warm-ups serve as a crucial unifying ritual that brings everyone into the same creative headspace. Whether it's vocal exercises, stretching, or our infamous 'Tiki Room' routine (those who know, know!), these moments before rehearsal help create a focused, supportive environment where creativity can flourish. I've found that warm-ups provide an invaluable opportunity to connect with each cast member, assess energy levels, and establish the collaborative spirit that makes theatre so magical. Through these shared moments, we build trust, foster ensemble unity, and set the tone for productive, engaging rehearsals where everyone feels prepared to give their best.

LIFE IS LIKE A MUSICAL

"Life is Like a Musical" by Tim Federle holds a special place in my teaching philosophy. I often share selected chapters with my young casts because it beautifully illustrates how the principles we learn in theatre extend far beyond the stage. The book draws thoughtful parallels between theatrical experiences and life lessons, offering wisdom that shapes not just performers, but well-rounded individuals.

Through Federle's insights, students learn that theatre isn't solely about perfecting a triple pirouette or hitting the highest note - it's about developing resilience, embracing collaboration, handling both success and setbacks with grace, and understanding the power of authentic self-expression. These lessons resonate deeply with young performers, helping them recognize that their theatrical journey is simultaneously preparing them for life's greater stage.

Using this book as a teaching tool allows me to reinforce the idea that art, at its core, is about human connection and personal growth. When students understand this broader perspective, they become not just better performers, but more empathetic, confident, and adaptable individuals ready to face life's various acts and scenes.
